Natural Treatment for Infertility and Other Women's Health Conditions
Myofascial Release (MFR) is a hands-on technique that releases restrictions in a connective tissue of the body known as fascia. Fascia surrounds and permeates every other structure of the body including the muscles, nerves, blood vessels, organs, ducts, and even every cell in the body. Fascia is similar in configuration to a three dimentional sweater or spider web which is continuous throughout the body from head to foot. Under normal conditions, it should be flexible, allowing for proper motion, shock absorption, and proper function of the structures that lie within it. Due to trauma, surgery, inflammation (like endometriosis), or poor postures over time, the fascia will tend to shorten and solidify. It has been shown that fascia has the propensity of exerting forces of up to 2000 lbs./sq. inch upon the structures that lie within it, producing pain, and/or dysfunction.
Fascial restrictions do not show up in any of the medical tests that are now being performed (MRI, CT scan, X Rays, EMG, etc.). It is only with skilled hands and eyes that fascial restrictions are found and treated. A Myofascial Release therapist applies gentle, but firm, sustained pressures into areas that are found to be restricted. With skilled hands, these adhesions are able to be softened, lengthened, rehydrated, and released. It is this release of the "straight jacket" of pressure upon fallopian tubes and other reproductive organs that then makes conception possible, and allows for a more open system for a developing baby to survive.
A fascial restriction in one area of the body can put a "drag" into other areas, creating pain and/or dysfunction elsewhere.
